Deal struck to protect old-growth forests in E. Oregon

Oregon U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden announced Wednesday that an accord had been reached between the timber industry and environmental groups on legislation to protect old-growth forests on six national forests covering nearly 10 million acres east of the Cascades in his state, while giving timber companies stable, ready access to younger trees.
