Canadian energy company to build interchange at Alberta oilsands site
Suncor Energy officials said that their decision to build a $55-million interchange on an increasingly congested highway near the company's oilsands operations near Fort McMurray, and hand over ownership to Alberta with no strings attached, was merely meeting the responsibilities imposed by the Highway Act, which makes access the developer's responsibility.

Nine school districts in SW Colorado mull education consortium
School districts from Durango, Bayfield, Ignacio, Montezuma-Cortez, Archuleta County, Dolores, Silverton, Mancos and Dove Creek are working with Pueblo Community College, San Juan Basin Technical College and San Juan College in Farmington to create a regional consortium on technical and career education that would allow smaller districts to offer courses usually offered only in larger districts.

U. of Utah returns federal grants for American Indian programs
University of Utah officials said it would cost the university too much to support the $1.1 million grant received in July to train American Indian math and science teachers and the nearly $1 million grant to train teachers in the Four Corners area, so they returned the federal grants, but the director of the university's American Indian Teacher Training Program said the decision suggested a lack of commitment to the program.

Dozens attend tribal ceremony in Montana to honor bison
Led by Lakota Chief Arvol Looking Horse, about 100 people gathered at the Stephens Creek bison-holding facility near Gardiner to participate in a ceremony to honor the bison captured and slaughtered in Montana after they wandered out of Yellowstone National Park this winter.

Idaho state park manager says grazing will restore park lands
Kevin Lynott, the manager of Massacre Rocks State Park in eastern Idaho, said he believes allowing grazing in the park would help restore grasslands there, but an official of the state Transportation Department which owns 335 acres within the park, opposes the plan.

Colorado asks court to halt pipeline project on Roan Plateau
Colorado Attorney General John Suthers asked the Garfield County District Court to issue an injunction to halt work on a 50-mile long natural-gas pipeline on the Roan Plateau because the companies working on the project have failed to meet the state's requirements on controlling run-off which the state said allowed sediment to enter waterways.

BLM investigation on wild horse deaths in Nevada continues
Bureau of Land Management officials continue their investigation into the cause of the nitrate toxicity that killed 71 wild horses near a watering hole at the Tonopah Test Range, and said a final report on their investigation would be released by July 2.

House to vote on bill to extend Utah gun law to all states
Under the provisions of the Secure Access to Firearms Enhancement Act sponsored by Utah Congressman Chris Cannon, the 17 states who have yet to honor Utah's concealed-weapon permit would have to honor the Utah permit or another issued by the carrier's home state.

Idaho governor vetoes repeal of R&D tax credit for businesses

Author discounts company's claim about gold in N.M. mountains
Albuquerque-based Santa Fe Gold Corp. has leased 57,000 acres of mineral rights in the Ortiz Mountains south of Madrid, and said that new data for that region of New Mexico suggests there may be 2 million ounces of recoverable gold that could be pulled out of the ground, but a local author who wrote a book about gold mining in that area said he's skeptical about the company's claims.

RealyTrac: Idaho foreclosures dropped a bit in March
The California-based company that tracks foreclosures across the nation said that foreclosure filings in Idaho fell 15 percent in March from the previous month's numbers, but that the 657 foreclosures recorded last month was still 85 percent higher than recorded in March, 2007.
