Montana DEQ issues permits for Gallatin Co. gravel pits
Montana Department of Environmental Quality officials said recent court decisions gave them no other option other than to issue permits for gravel pits in Gallatin County, although Gallatin County commissioners said the timing of the decision, which was made the day before commissioners were to vote on interim zoning to regulate gravel pits, was suspect.

Idaho tribe launches bus service for workers

BuRec cuts flows from Wyoming reservoir into Montana river
Cooler temperatures have slowed spring runoff from the Bighorn River Basin into Bighorn Lake, pushing the Bureau of Reclamation to curtail flows from Yellowtail Dam into the Bighorn River; two weeks ago, the BuRec decided to keep flows at 1,900 cubic feet per second (cfs) to aid the brown-trout hatch below the dam.

Arizona panel OKs tougher vehicle-emissions standard
The Governor's Regulatory Review Council approved new vehicle-emission standards for all new light trucks and cars sold in Arizona, beginning in 2012, although the plan's implementation hinges on the outcome of a lawsuit filed by California, Arizona and other states against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency seeking a waiver that allows states to set such standards.

Alberta has a competitor for nuclear-power project

Realtors report: Las Vegas housing market shows signs of recovery
On Tuesday, the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors reported that the sale of single-family homes in April was up nearly 30 percent over the same month last year, and that inventory of unsold homes remained steady, both signs that the group said showed the market is improving in the Nevada city.
