Roswell lost airline service in 2002, and it took the New Mexico city five years and a revenue guarantee of $2.4 million over two years to get service from Roswell to the Dallas-Fort Worth airport in Texas back, but the service has proved so popular that $700,000 in community pledges have been left untouched and the deal is set to be renewed. Nevada city hopes to hang on to Essential Airline Service
Ely is more than a five-hour drive to just about any major airport, and the 4,000 or so residents of the Nevada town are fearful that it will lose its federally subsidized Essential Air Service as the federal government weighs whether small, remote towns and cities deserve to continue to get such service.
